Dana from Old Red Barn Co. asked me to do a tutorial on this campfire pillow I posted about back in December. She is hosting a giveaway of a Felt Campfire Pillow I made on her blog today. Go check it out and enter!

Let’s get started!

To make this pillow you will need the above supplies + the pattern pieces. The sewing machine is optional because you could sew the whole pillow by hand if you don’t have a machine or don’t know how to use one. As for amounts of fabric, my pillows measured 24 inches tall when I finished them. I used roughly 3/4 yd of white duck for the background fabric for two pillows, and 3/4 yard polka dot backing fabric for two pillows. I used the printed quilting fabric I had on hand for the flames and logs but each was roughly 1/2 yd ( I had plenty of scraps leftover) I also used 3 tan felt 9″x12″ rectangles for two pillows. For the felt pillow, I purchased 3/4 yd of orange, 1/2 yd of yellow, and 1/4 yd of dark brown.  The amount of fabric will depend on how large you make your pillow.

For the Pattern pieces, they are all ready to print on 8.5″x11″ paper, and they are all scaled to each other, i.e if you print 1 at 100% print the others at 100% also, if you enlarge 1 to 200% print the others at 200% as well. To print at 100% so it is just the 8.5″x11″ would make a small pillow roughly 12″ tall. You can either enlarge the pattern pieces and have printed on a large printer, print each piece in sections and tape together (what I did), or use the patterns as a guide to free hand sketch you own.

Orange Flame Pattern : Yellow Flame Pattern: Log Patterns

Cut each pattern piece out of the respective fabric you are using. Once cut, arrange pieces on the background fabric in the arrangement shown below.

Pin the pieces to the backing. As you may notice there is not a pin in the top of the middle log. This is because I will be lowering that log so I can sew the piece underneath down a bit, and then I will put that log back in place once that is finished. After pinning all the pieces to the background fabric, cut out the background fabric about an 1″-1.5″ around the perimeter.

Sew the pieces to the background fabric. I went in this order: 1. Long log (lifting the flames and the middle log to sew underneath. 2. flames ( lifting middle log to sew just under edges) 3. middle log. 4. light brown front of logs (sewn by hand)

On the pillow made of all felt (shown above), I sewed everything by hand since it won’t fray and I like that the hand stitched detail shows up nicely against the simple felt and adds a bit more interest.  On the Pillow with mostly fabric pieces (shown below) I machined stitched  all of the fabric pieces down (since this fabric will fray) and then hand stitched the front of the logs for a nice detail.  You could do a combination of hand stitching and machine stitching, or 100% of either.  It is mainly up to you and your preference.

With the pieces all stitched to the background fabric, you will then take your backing fabric (orange polka dot) and lay the two right sides together, pin them, and then cut out the backing fabric.

Now sew your front piece to your backing. This can be done by hand using the backstitch. Make sure to leave an opening somewhere to stuff it, my opening was in the bottom center. Once sewn, clip all the curves and corners so it will lay flat once it is turned.  Turn pillow.

Stuff pillow and sew up that opening, hand sew – I used the whip stitch, or machine sew.

Now enjoy your campfire pillow.

I hope that my directions are clear. But definitely email me or comment with any questions that you have. I would love to see any creations made from this tutorial and pattern. Please let me know if you blog about it or add your photos to my flickr group.

I also want to mention that this is not my original idea, as in my post about the first campfire pillow I made for a gift, I saw this on Michelle’s blog vintagejunky and am just sharing how I made it.

Thanks for stopping by! Don’t forget to hop over to Dana’s Blog for the giveaway!

First things first my friends! The winner of the snowman, owl, zipper pouch is: Sorry guys completely forgot to do this before i went to bed last night. :)

Congratulations Dana!

Okay onto a fun project!

A special little girl I know turned 2 this past week and had a fun birthday party! I used Cakies awesome tutorial and made her a play tent.  I would have loved one of these to hide away in and read for hours on end as a little girl. So I decided to make her a vintage inspired hideaway!

Rubyellyn’s tutorial was super easy and quick to follow. The main things I did that are a little different where, I put the second tie on each post in the middle instead of the top because all of the tents I have seen online have had a dip in the side of the fabric since there was no middle support.  I also (although I did it after all these pictures:) stapled a thick blue ribbon about 4″ down from the the dowel one end on each post because my posts where sliding out on anything other than hardwood. I think my hole bit must have been a touch bigger than the dowel since everybody online I read said there’s was tight enough to stand fine.  And I obviously painted the frame.  :)  I have another almost done for another little persons birthday gift. I seriously love this and kind want to make a big one for me but will refrain till Luke is big enough to have one of his own. :)

I used a fun vintage sheet I found recently as I know this little one and her momma are vintage lovers. :) And I made a fun pendant garland to match.

The great part about it is it all come apart easily and stores so compact. I think that is essential for parents, and it is such a great imagination prompter.

Thanks so much for stopping by!

There is no winner for Thursday because nobody commented!

So today I have TONS to do when Luke wakes up from his nap. I am helping my friend prepare for her daughters 2nd birthday party tomorrow, I have a couple things to make in the way of gifts,

I need to finish up Luke’s 1st Birthday invites so I can get them in the mail, along with a couple other projects I need to finish up and grocery shopping! I hope Luke is super happy and ready to go after his nap. :)

So I am posting my final giveaway this week a little late today! You understand, right? ;)

Don’t worry if you already posted on the other giveaways or won! I would rather the items go to someone then sit in storage in my house.

So I have three items today! All going to 1 winner.

Last a nice little zippered pouch that is the perfect size for makeup, a catch all of stuff in your purse, or to store your little handy project you want to carry with you.

And here is Wednesdays giveaway.

Remember my Fall Garland from this post? also shown below.

Well I have one to giveaway. It is the same style and size as the one above just in different fabrics. The photos below are of the one I am giving away. I wasn’t able to get a good photo of it hanging today.

It measures 44″ end flag to end flag and has roughly 12″ tails on each end to hang it by.  It is also double sided, as in, it looks the same from either side, so hanging it in your window will make both the inside and outside of your house pretty. :)

The winner of the Monday giveaway is Congrats Angela! I will contact you.

Tuesdays giveaway is at the bottom of this post! :)

This past weekend I did a small church craft show! It was nice. Better than I was expecting since in the past church craft shows have never been great for me. But as it’s my first show in two years and I tweaked my set up I am hoping it will help me get into some of the juried shows around here.

The booth in it’s entirety! I tried to keep the backdrop all white with just a couple colored things like the two small suitcases and some pyrex dishes to hold smaller items.

I made a sign to match my blog header, and ordered new business cards that match also.  This is the tall unit I constructed a couple years ago.  I made some tweaks this year but my big plan before next year is to replace the lattice with horizontal slats and integrated my sign as part of the slats. I think that will give it a more polished modern look.

I have a shelf full of cozy owls. Then hanging below are some of my embroidered wall art pieces.

On this side, I have the owl pillows, mini owls & mini mushrooms in the smaller suitcase, fancy garlands in the pyrex, and zippered pouches.

In the middle here I have the baby stuff, burp cloth sets & crinkle owls in the suitcase, big kid bibs on the table, and drool bibs hanging on the suitcase.

These are my new snowmen this year. I pinned this picture a bit ago on pinterest and the tall milk snowmen at the top of the picture inspired these snowmen.

They are made from vintage chenille & 100% wool felt.  They stand up on there own because I put a good three inches of rice in the bottom and stuffed them super solid.

Finally on the other side I stacked a couple of white wooden crates and put my bigger animals and holiday animals in there.

I will be posting what didn’t sell this week on etsy so if you are interested in anything check back for my shop update announcement.

Okay and onto the giveaway for Tuesday!

A little love for somebody! This is a hand embroidered love you fabric and felt flag. This would be a gift for someone special to you. Or heck we all need a little reminding that we are loved! ;)

The flag is stitched to a twig and mounted in a vintage spool.  It stands approx. 13″ tall and the flag is approx. 6″ wide.

The spool base has a vintage earring and some ribbon for a little extra detail!
