I stumbled across The Sometimes Crafter the other day, from her stacked quilt piece I linked to here. I am loving her blog, specifically her sampler quilt along and tutorials.
As soon as I saw her Paper Piecing tutorial block, Circle of Geese? I knew I had to make it.
So today, during Luke’s nap, I made my first paper pieced block. Well, I made a paper pieced string block forever ago, but that is so easy I don’t really count it. This block was very easy. The Tutorial is very clear and easy to follow. I since have found other info on paper piecing, which is how quilters get those cool story blocks apparently, and will be exploring this form of quilting more.
I used scraps from my overflowing scrap bins in mainly purple hues. It is the perfect size for a large potholder. So that’s exactly what I did with it. Because as gorgeous as this pattern is, making enough blocks for a quilt, even a small one, would be a LONG process.
I sandwiched it with a plain fabric back, and a couple layers of batting, added a ribbon loop to hang it up if needed, and a couple straight lines of quilting. Simple and ready to go.
It’s part of a gift I am working on for something?!?!
I will definitely be trying more of The Sometimes Crafter’s Tutorials and am also getting some mad inspiration from her flickr pool and group.
Thanks for stopping by!
