The Coco the Crab Pattern is here!
Welcome Coco the Crab and included baby crab sewing pattern to the woollypetals family. This is another fun sewing pattern that will help you create an adorable crab stuffed animal.
Coco the Crab is 14" at widest point, and the baby crab is 10" at the widest point. They are both sewn the same with the main difference, other than size, being the reduction in legs on the baby crab.
Sewing Coco is beginner friendly, but doesn't come without learning new techniques and potentially a little skill stretching. The challenge of sewing small pieces together for the legs, turning, and stuffing them is something I am sure everyone can achieve.
The pattern explores skills like, a little hand sewing, sewing small pieces, turning small tube like parts, working with felt, if desired, and sewing and clipping curvy pieces.
The Crustacean Station, shown below on Coco, gives you the option to add felt shells and stars to the back of the crab. You can hand stitch or machine stitch these in place.
An optional weighted bean bag can be sewn and added inside Coco the Crab to give a bit more weight and snuggly feel to Coco. This isn't necessary, but I love the way it makes Coco feel just a little bit more substantial.
The 10 page pattern includes fabric requirements, step by step instructions with pictures, a link to a private 2.5 hr long companion video that you can sew along with start to finish in real time, or use the time stamps in each section of the pattern to help you with sewing something new or a technique that is a little bit out of your comfort zone and easier to explain via a video. It's hosted on YouTube, although only accessible via the link in the pattern and is so very helpful if you are a visual person or newer to sewing stuffed creatures.
The pattern comes with files to print at home on letter size paper, you tape them together on dashed lines on the pattern. But it also comes with an additional file if you would prefer to print in large format. This is the first pattern I have that is including the large format option!
Playing with fabric placement can open a world of options as well. I made this two toned Coco below and just love how she turned out.
