I felt the urge to be crafty this weekend. But not normal craftiness, just absentminded go with the flow and create craftiness. Sometimes it just feels good to make something that isn’t planned.
I have this jar of spools (it’s larger than it appears here ;) and more spools hanging around my sewing room. I have made some things from the spools before, but I keep getting and finding more. :)
For some reason I started thinking about valentine’s day this weekend, yeah I know, and I came up with the sentiments flag. Not really an only valentine’s day thing, but something that can be used all year long to tell your loved one how you feel. :)
A hand stitched sentiment on a bright fabric, is backed with felt, and sewn to a twig held firmly in a vintage wooden spool.
I also have this pile of vintage and thrifted frames, I use them for my fabric collages. I am itching for my basement to be done (1 month) and I decided to make a little piece for a wall of art I am planning.
This emulates the feeling I want to capture in the basement, fun, cheerful, playful, sunny. It measures 8″x10″ in the frame and I hope to build a wall of different art styles around it.
The sun is made from vintage yellow chenille and is hand stitched to the linen background. The sun rays are also hand-stitched. The pendants of different fabrics are appliqued on the linen background and then machine stitched over.
The quote “life is sunshine” is hand stitched. I love the Lucinda Handwriting font for my fabric collages as it looks like free style cursive. I usually print out whatever saying I want and then trace it onto the base fabric. Easy Peasy!
Lastly I made this mini framed applique. I found this frame at the thrift store and loved the little metal hook in the top. I am not a huge fan of the gold and might have painted it if I wasn’t so impatient. But now I think it works!
I recently came across a bunch of heat’n’bond in my stash (no idea what I bought it for) and used it on a couple appliqued onsies for Luke. It is fabulous! You don’t even have to stitch the edges if you don’t want to because it doesn’t fray. AMAZING! :)
I used it to applique the star on the above fabric base, and after framing it, added a couple rolled flowers, and a tatted butterfly from my stash.
Okay I am thinking of doing a giveaway this week! Just because. :) Also check out my From:Me To:You Facebook page this month there are going to be 4 winners, and a nominator winner at the end of the month!
Thanks for stopping by!
