The story behind the StarFlake Quilt Block

I love combining classic quilt motifs, and the StarFlake block is one of my favorites, a star and a snowflake merged into a single block. There's something about it that just works, whether you make it in cool wintery tones or bright, bold colors.

About the Pattern

The StarFlake is a traditionally pieced 12.5" square block (13" unfinished). The pattern includes fabric requirements for a single block as well as for a throw-size quilt with sashing and cutting instructions for all of it. Detailed written instructions with diagrams walk you through each step. Skill level is intermediate to advanced, but the construction itself is straightforward traditional piecing.

One Pattern, Endless Options

A few fun ways you can make this pattern your own.

Mini quilt

Make a single block as a mini quilt or pillow front. It finishes at 12.5" square, a great size for wall hangings and table toppers.

Throw quilt

The pattern includes fabric requirements and cutting instructions for making a throw-size quilt with sashing. Sixteen blocks would make a 72" square quilt.

Sampler block

The 12.5" finished size makes this a great addition to a sampler quilt alongside other blocks of the same size.

Cottage Industry Friendly

You're welcome to make and sell finished items from this pattern as a small, one-person cottage business, just cite woollypetals as your pattern source. This pattern may not be used for mass production. If you're teaching a class, each attendee should purchase their own copy.
