What is a Silly Goose

It’s a stuffed animal! Short story; I bought a goose pattern, made it. Liked it. Made a few more with adjustments to make it better imo ;). Shared it with IG and YouTube. Lo and Behold the pattern and shop went out of business??? It is closed for good and no other online presence. So I searched for, found, and bought a few more geese patterns on Etsy. They were all absolutely identical. SO I decided to make my own. Since I had already made mods and knew there was more room for improvment.

While creating my own pattern I shortened the neck, shortened the beak, altered the shape of the head, I rounded the belly so it would sit on it’s own better. I changed the shape of the butt trying to make it have more of a feather vibe and ended up making it a lot taller butt, but more squat too. Lol. Hard to describe, but let’s just say I did alot of drafting and about 4 differnt versions before I got things exactly as I wanted. I changed the style of the feet to after several different versions. Whew! While I used the basic idea of all the other goose patterns I had purchased. I wanted to REALLY make this pattern my own so I worked and worked to do something more than the tweaks I had made with the original pattern. Ultimately I am really happy with the way my Silly Goose Pattern turned out and think it’s me and different then alot of the geese out there.

Fun Mods

Okay so a few fun things you can change about the Silly Goose pattern.

1st you can make a goose exactly like the pattern. ;) 1 mod is having legs attached to the feet or leaving the legs off and just have the feet.

2nd I have made the goose with vinyl for the beak. It’s a fun different texture. Sewn exactly the same with one mod. p.s. I do not use vinyl for feet. When I tried my machine did not like the top stitching on the feet and it shredding the vinyl. So maybe possible with different sewing machine feet but I haven’t tried it.

3rd I have made a few patchwork versions and I want to make MORE. I have a little clip in the pattern video about how to make a patchwork panel to cut the body from. The Yellow and White checkerboard patchwork is my current favorite.

4th you can omit the wings, like I do on the patchwork versions. Or put differnt fabrics on each side of the wing so when the wings lifts up it is a little surprise of coordianting fabric.

5th a follower on IG alerted me to the fact that it has flamingo vibes too and so if you extend the length of the leg pattern piece to 12″+ you could make a flamingo. Now I haven’t tried this but I think it’s a cute idea. I like the idea of knotting the leg too for the flamingo knee.

Pattern and Companion Video

The pattern is availbale in my Etsy Shop. Is 12 pages of written instructions with photograpghs of the process.

Two seperate files hold the pattern pieces for the two size options for the pattern. 20″ tall goose, the one I have by far made the most, and a 16″ tall goose.

Both sizes are sewn the same but the 16″ goose might be a tini tiny bit harder due to smaller pieces. Specifically the beak, and the turning of feet/legs and neck. Also stuffing the neck and head. But 100% doable as I have made it several times with no problem. Just take it slow.

There is a link in the pattern to a private Youtube Video that I walk you through step by step sewing a goose. With some bonus material. The Youtube time stamps are included in the written pattern for all the different sections since the video ended up being 2.5 hours long. Whew. Long but good incase you don’t quite understand a seciton based on the photos. Hence the timestamps. p.s. that video to more than 24 hours to upload. Not sure why but whoa!!!!

While two sizes are included in the pattern. A 20″ and a 16″. I include infor on how to make Tiny! A 9″ tall mini guy made by scaling on the patterns when printing. It’s not “officially” part of the pattern because it is TRICKY due to it’s size!! Check out page 3 of the pattern for help making Tiny!
