Grandmas Strawberry Kitchen

Why a Strawberry Pillow? Well, why not? Lol. I have been following the joy this past year when it comes to sewing and what projects I put my time into making a pattern.

Strawberries are just so cute! I love pillows and I really love food item projects for some reason. I think I have a strong tie to Strawberries because one of my grandmas had a full on strawberry kitchen. When I was growing up and we would visit her, a 12 hr drive away, I always loved all the strawberry things in her kitchen. I luckily have the sweetest white pitcher with strawberries on it from her kitchen. It hangs out in my kitchen now as a reminder of my grandmad and all the strawberries in her kitchen. She also had that quintessential jar of strawberry candies in her formal living room and it was such a treat when I would get to have one. Consequently I couldn’t stop stop thinking about a Strawberry Pillow, I think my grandma would have absolutely loved to have one of these in her cozy spot in her kitchen.

I really wish I had a picture of her in her Strawberry Kitchen. I am going to have to see if my parents have a printed one. But I do have a picture of the Pitcher to show you.

Strawberry Details

The Strawberry Pillow Pattern comes with 7 Size options! Ther are two styles, the Tall and the Short. Within each style you have a large, medium, and small size. The seventh size is a Tiny Strawberry measuring a mear 4″ and is perfect for a Bag Charm or a Christmas Tree Ornament.

Every Style and Size is sewn in the same way. There are two options for sewing the Leaf Top, plus a couple options for sewing the Strawberry depending on how you want the Leaf Top attached.

I spent quite a bit of time hand drafting these strawberries just like so many of my patterns. The tactile approach to sketching and cutting and figuring out a design with paper instead of a computer works best for me. I went through like 8 differnt shapes before I got the Tall Straweberry right. Then a few more to get the Short Strawberry correct. Then I had to scale the pattern up and down. But first I digitized it. Let’s just say what I thought I need to do was not what I needed to do. But in the end I had two adorabley shaped Strawberries.

What is a Strawberry Pillow Made From

There isn’t a whole lot you need to make the new Strawbery Pillow Pattern Release.

Quilting Cotton for the Strawberry and Leaf Top fabric.

Fusible Fleese is great for the Strawberry body, but not required. It gives a less lumpy Strawberry Pillow once stuffed.

Batting also needed for the Leaf top. but just scraps works great.

Last matching your thread to your Strawberry Fabric and the Leaf Top Fabric will be ideal so the stitches blend in.

You can sub in batting for the Fusible Fleece. I would suggest basting them together along the edge so it’s easier to work with. The nice thing about Fusible Fleece is it adheres to your fabric so it is all one layer and takes less wrangling.
