Shortly after Norah was born I was offered some of this super fun Trucks and Tractors fabric from Laurie Wisburn to play with. Of course I couldn’t refuse because I love everything Laurie does!
So I set to work figuring out the perfect quilt to make with it for my little munchkin! I have been loving some of the pixelated and word quilts popping up around pinterest, instagram, and flickr lately and went in that direction. This is what I came up with.
I made it with 6″ finished squares and kept the focus on the awesome trucks and tractors fabric by using it for my word “dig”. I used a mixture of solids mostly Kona to pixelate the background so the fun trucks and tractors fabric would make the word pop. Although ask my husband how long it took him to figure out it was a word! Men! ;)
I quilted each square with a free motion circle! Yikes that was tough. I used a paper circle and pinned it down on each circle and sewed around it! There not perfect but practice will help right? I figured it would go with the trucks and tractors theme and represent wheels. The Black and white striped binding is the perfect finishing touch.
Oh and the back is this super soft green minky! So cozy and cuddly. I was a bit scared to use it as backing since I thought it would shift a lot, but I stretched it super tight while pinning and It actually wasn’t bad to sew at all! I love the way it crinkled up after washing too.
So here’s the fun part! Leave a comment on this post for a chance to win a fat quarter set of Laurie’s four fabrics in the Trucks and Tractors line, along with two half yards of the blue and red solid shown below from Robert Kaufman! I will choose a winner on Saturday!
I have a second giveaway too! After I pick the winner of the fabric I will pick someone else to win this fun zipper pouch! It’s the perfect travel size for your little man, or a friends, to store his cars and trucks. I keep one in my purse with a few little toys for Luke when we are at a restaurant or in the car. It keeps them corralled and I am not fishing around in my giant purse in a moment of dire need of distraction! :)
Check out my Instagram feed for a way to have a second entry into the giveaways!
But if you just can’t wait to get your hands on some, Trucks and Tractors is available on the Robert Kaufman site!
Thanks so much for stopping by and Good Luck!
