2 Week Quilt Top Challenge

2 Week Quilt Top Challenge

It’s the end of week 1 of my 2 Week Quilt Top Challenge. Don’t know what I’m talking about? That’s okay let me expalin.

At the beginning of this week, Jan 27th 2025, I embarked on a 2 Week Quilt Top Challenge for my self. To quilt as many quilt tops as I could in two weeks. Working on mainly this project with a few other small projects sprinkled in. But the main focus is finishing quilt tops.

I am testing out mulitple different threads on my Grace Company Longarm during this process, and sharing results daily on Instagram. With a few videos each week on YouTube too.

Supplies I’m Using

So of course I am Quilting on my Grace Company Quilting Frame. I have the Quilters Evolution 8ft frame. Paired with my Grace Company Qniuqe 21 X Elite Longarm machine. I am a Grace Ambassador. I like to point that out. But I also sewed on a grace frame and machine for 4 years before becoming an ambasador. So I feel becoming an ambassador stemed from me already using and loving their product.

You can find exactly the info for my machine and affliate links HERE if you are interested in more. Please always reach out if you have any questions.

I am testing out 4 different threads during this challene to try and fix my tension issues and figure out if I have a favorite thread.

Spoiler alert for the Week 1 recap video on YouTube. I was able to fix all the tension issues I have been having but have yet to pick a favorite thread, so far they are all sewing beautifully.

I used Hobbs cotton batting for one of my first quilts while waiting for my roll of The Warm Company Warm and Plush batting to arrive and have to say I was not impressed. I could see if you live in a warm climate or want a very light quilt with cotton batting. But I love the Plushness of Warm and Plush cotton batting and will be sticking with that. If I wanted a slightly thinner batting I would go with The Warm Company Warm and Natural which is a thinner version of the warm and plush but is much more substantial than the Hobbs Cotton Batting.

Week 1 Accomplishments

I started the 2 Week Quilt Top Challenge with 10 quilt tops and quickly unearthed 2 more. One of which I am prepping to send out. It’s to big for my frame.

At the end of week 1 I have quilted 5.5, with the last half planned to be finished over the weekend. So not bad for 5.5 days of work.

Hop over to Instagram to see the quilts held up or spread out on the longarm after quilting. I will share them fully once bound. Another Challenge maybe?

Day 1 – Baby Sparked Quilt + Squirrel!!! Quilt

Day 2 – another Squirrel!!! Quilt

Day 3 – worked through all my tension issues on a 1 yard quilt sandwich and loaded my Firefly Quilt on the longarm.

Day 4 – Quilted the Firefly Quilt. Pattern by Pen and Paper Patterns.

Day 5 – Starfy Quilt + 1/2 of Do You Want to Sew a Snowman Quilt.

All patterns are mine so far except the Firefly quilt and are linked in the list above.

Check out the Week 1 Recap Video on Youtube as well as the Introduction Video.

Week 2 Plan

The plan for week 2 is very much the same. Keep quilting. I have 5 tops left but not backings prepped. So My goal is to make at least one backing and quilt one top per day.

From top to bottom on the next picture I have a Trip Around the World Quilt (tutorial by Woodberry Way) + StarBeam Quilt + StarPetals Quilt + New Star Beginner Quilt + Starfy Quilt left to quilt.

P.s. check out the free course that goes with my New Star Beginner Quilt Pattern.

I have used three of the 4 Threads on a quilt so I one left to quilt a whole top with and then I will go back to try a few over again. Join me on YouTube for a coupel videos next week and well as daily (during the work week) video recaps on Instagram.

Thanks so much for stopping by!
