Homemade…

Wednesday and Thursday found me not wanting to do anything but sit and craft (well and eat thanksgiving food)! Which is fun, but also makes the house feel neglected. You know, dishes, laundry, and vacuuming, all piling up. :)

Anyhow, I did sit and create some homemade decorations for our basement, now that I will be using it daily, I will be decorating it for Christmas.

My Little Vignette:

The overview: 2 book page trees, 1 doily tree, a crocheted jar cozy, an embroidered framed hankie, and lastly a fun way to hang ornaments.

I had this little hankie/doily with the word Merry. I then attached it to torn up old graph paper framed in a vintage frame with a fabric and button hanger.

I saw these crochet cozies over at dottie angel and would have made some on the spot if I had any jars available to me. :) I finally, after several trips to my usual thrift stores, found a great old mason jar with that lovely patina rim lid. So I made a cozy post hast. I then remembered a pile of birch branches someone (pregnancy brain is making me not remember who) gave me and went to the garage to select one to prop in my cozied jar.

Then when stepping back to gaze upon my branch tree decided it needed a little jewelry and crocheted a yarn chain to hang it from.

Lastly I made some trees. I found some miniature plant stakes at the thrift store the other day. I think the tags said 12″, I had never seen them so tiny before, (they look like what you stake tomato plants with) so I had to snatch them up because I just knew I could find something to use them for. Well they happened to be sitting upside down on my table which made me think of a christmas tree, and from there I just started sewing doilies on haphazardly with green yarn. I added vintage buttons and LOVE the way it turn out. I will be hunting for more mini doilies to make the other. :)

Lastly, for the two other trees I have seen book page items around a lot lately, specifically wreaths, and decided to make som trees with some foam forms I have had laying around for awhile. I just cut leaves out of an old thrifted book, (the older the book the more aged the pages look), and cut some leaves out of white felt also. I just eyeballed them so they are all different shapes and sizes. I then glued them on the trees in round layers from the bottom up. It was time consuming, but nothing some great Christmas Music can’t help you through.

And that completes my Homemade Christmas Vignette! I feel it is rather Anthropologie feeling, and that makes me happy. :)

Thanks for stopping by!
