One Thing

One Thing

One of the many projects I have been working on lately.

As our basement remodel winds down, I believe we have roughly 9 more days to completion, I am running around like a chicken with it’s head cut off trying to make everything fall into place for a smooth transition. Beside the fact that my excitement is making all my decisions take longer because I want to get it perfect. :)

But back to the project above. As I am not a fan of the wooden gliders with two cushions, I wanted a fully upholstered glider. But something much more sleek than the normal look. Like this! But it being way out of our price range at the moment I decided to forgo the glider till I am absolutely certain I want and need it and slipcover a chair I already had instead.

I think I may have shared a picture of it here before as I found it for $10 at Goodwill and it is in prestine condition. I believe someone had it covered in plastic since it’s first debut.

Well I bought a bolt of white cotton duck from JoAnn’s with a 50%off coupon and made a slipcover for the chair. (I was planning on slip covering it for our living room to as gray is more our color than beige. So if I do end up getting a glider it wasn’t a lot of work for nothing)
I have made slipcovers before so it was simple in the fact that I knew the basic way to construct, but having a curved back was a bit tricky for me.

The main seam that runs along the edge of the back and down the arms is piped, and the cushion is piped. But the rest is left to be simple clean lined seams. I also serged the inside of all the seams so I can just launder whenever it gets spilled on which will probably be inevitable being white in a babies room. :)

I also ended up making a pillow out of leftover fabrics from Luke’s sheets and bedskirt as I felt without the pillow it looked a little lonely.

Okay more projects to come as I find time to take pictures. Sorry I have been so absent lately.

Thanks for sticking with me stopping by!

  1. this is great…not obly does it look fantastic but i am always astounded by people who do their own slipcovers. i want to and need to but i find it so intimidating.
